"Blackie" earned his nickname the hard way, by legging out a close play at first despite the fact that he had blown his hamstring halfway down the basepath. The resulting black and blue ran the length of his leg and serves as a testament to his hardnosed, leave it all on the field, playing style. Blackie is very agile behind the plate and has made many strikers dead by catching their foul ticks. As a striker, he has developed into a fearsome cleanup. On the basepaths he relies on cunning and guile. Blackie is an original member of the team and resides in Melrose. He and his brother, Andy make up one of the three brother combinations on the team.
